Calgary, AB (January 4, 2020) – The women’s tech team jumped right into 2020 with their first race of the year in Zagreb, Croatia. The late day affair saw Laurence St-Germain (St-Ferréol-les-Neiges) and Amelia Smart (Invermere, BC) start the year on the right foot finishing in 11th and 17th spot respectively. St-Germain, who is coming off of a ninth place finish in Lienz is happy with how she is skiing.
“I’m really happy about my second run, I wish I was able to put two together but it’s always good to move up. I skied well. I hope next race in Flachau will be really good for the whole team, it’s going to come together.”
The Zagreb slalom, the longest on the circuit, is difficult because of the enormous changes in light and condition between the first and second run.
The race was a personal best finish for Smart who has raced only a handful of World Cup races in her young career.
“My game plan was ski like I know I can ski and just push it. I’m stoked about today, I felt pretty good. Had some good training days leading up to this race and I felt good going into it. Just stoked it worked out.”
Erin Mielzynski (Collingwood, ON), Roni Remme (Collingwood, ON) and Ali Nullmeyer (Toronto, ON) did not qualify for a second run.
