Université Laval, October 21, 2025 — Today, the Service des activités sportives at Université Laval, Tennis Canada and National Bank made a major announcement for the growth of tennis in Québec City: from August 17 to 23, Université Laval’s new PEPS tennis centre will host the inaugural Québec National Bank Challenger, an ATP Challenger 125 men’s professional outdoor tournament.
Scheduled to coincide with the Cincinnati Open (Masters 1000) and immediately preceding the US Open, Québec’s new tournament is poised to become a key stop for players looking to fine-tune their preparations for the prestigious Flushing Meadows event. As the highest-level tournament in Canada after the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, it promises to showcase rising stars from Canada and around the world, as well as established Top 50 players.
“A few years ago, Tennis Canada committed to bringing international-level events back to Québec. After fulfilling that promise in 2025 with the presentation of an ITF W35 tournament, we’re taking another step in 2026 with this new ATP Challenger 125 men’s competition,” said Valérie Tétreault, Vice-President, Communications and Professional Tournaments at Tennis Canada.
“This milestone reflects our commitment to giving local fans an annual professional tennis event and strengthening Québec’s presence not only on the international sports stage but also within Canada’s tennis ecosystem.” Just months after opening, Université Laval’s new tennis centre will host Canada’s largest ATP Challenger tournament, providing a unique opportunity to officially inaugurate the facilities.
At the heart of the campus, the 16 tennis courts built to international standards demonstrate Université Laval and the city of Québec’s ability to host major sporting events. With stadium seating and top-quality facilities, the centre court provides the ideal setting for elite players while remaining accessible to the community.
“What better way to open our centre than by welcoming the world’s top players?” said Julie Dionne, Director of the Service des activités sportives at Université Laval. “We have consistently demonstrated our expertise, and this event continues the tradition of major tournaments we organize, always upholding the department’s high standards of excellence.”
National Bank, title partner of the Québec tournament for the next two years!
Organizers also announced that National Bank, the official presenting partner of all ATP Challenger tournaments in Canada, will be the title partner of the Québec ATP Challenger 125. This corporate partnership builds on National Bank’s long-standing investments in sports and will once again support the growth of Canadian tennis at every level.
“National Bank is proud to partner with the Québec National Bank Challenger, an event that will showcase tennis in a region with a strong sports culture,” said Marie-Josée Mainville, Regional Vice-President, Québec Ouest, at National Bank. “By supporting this high-profile tournament, we are reaffirming our commitment to developing tennis in Canada while giving local and international players a world-class stage.”
