MONTREAL—Canada’s best senior kyorugi black belt athletes will battle for coveted spots on the 2019 World Championship and Summer Universiade Teams at the National
Taekwondo Championships in Montreal, February 9.
In a winner takes all format at Montreal’s Claude-Robillard Sport Complex, eight male and six female athletes in a
variety of weight divisions will look to punch their tickets to the World Championships in Manchester, May 15-19, as well
as the Summer Universiade in Napoli, Italy, July 3-14. Yvette Yong (Female 46kg) and Skylar Park (Female 57kg) are pre-
selected through their World Taekwondo ranking.
Two Canadians who earned spots for the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifer, Ashley Kraayeveld and Rachel Cuma, will be
looking to successfully defend their titles in the Female 62kg and 73kg classes. Canada’s 2018 Pan Am Championship
Team members, Ruxandra Rodgers and Viviane Tranquille, will be challenged by Charlotte Brown for top spot in the
Female 53kg Division. Veterans, Siddhartha Bhat in the Men’s 63kg and Hervan Nkogho in the Men’s 68kg division will be
looking to hold off a talented group of junior athletes.
Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. until approximately 5:45 p.m.
