BANGKOK, THAILAND (Sept. 13, 2025) — At the fourth stop of the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, Canadian skaters earned two silver medals as competition concluded Saturday in Bangkok. In ice dance, Charlie Anderson (London, Ont.) and Cayden Dawson (Oakville, Ont.) finished second, as did Jazmine Desrochers (Mississauga, Ont.) and Kieran Thrasher (Oakville, Ont.) in pairs.
Anderson and Dawson (150.77) placed behind Americans Hana Maria Aboian and Daniil Veselukhin (153.96). The podium was completed by France’s Lea Hienne and Louis Varescon (142.59).
“It was really nice to be able to show everyone what we’ve been doing in training early in the season,” said Charlie Anderson. “We achieved our goal, which was to feel the same way we do in training by connecting with the music. And when we do that, everything else falls into place. We’re happy!”
The pairs event featured a close battle between Jazmine Desrochers and Kieran Thrasher (160.65) and China’s Rui Guo and Yiwen Zhang (163.03). The Canadians led after the short program by 1.48 points, but momentum shifted in the free skate. Americans Sofia Jarmoc and Luke Witkowski (149.66) took bronze.
“We stepped out of our comfort zone in the short program, which I love!” said Jazmine Desrochers. “It’s a little disappointing how things ended this week, and I wish I could have let go a little more and had more fun. That’s something we’ll have to change at the next competition, but overall, we did what we could.”
“The free skate didn’t go as we wanted, but we’re still happy with the direction we’re heading in,” added Kieran Thrasher. “There are definitely things to work on, but in general, we’ve shown improvement with each competition. And that’s how we want to continue.”
Also competing in Bangkok were Beau Callahan (Saint-Amable, Que.) and Vladimir Furman (Chambly, Que.), a newly formed team making their first Junior Grand Prix appearance together, who finished eighth in pairs with 125.93. In ice dance, Victoria Carandiuc (Saint-Constant, Que.) and Andrei Carandiuc (Saint-Constant, Que.) also placed eighth with 122.05.
In the singles events, Anthony Paradis (Boisbriand, Que.) placed sixth with 181.39 in the men’s competition, won by Japan’s reigning junior world champion Rio Nakata (246.20). In the women’s event, Victoria Barakhtina (Toronto, Ont.) made her Junior Grand Prix debut and finished eighth (168.71) in the women’s event won by Japan’s Mao Shimada (199.07), a three-time junior world champion.
