Sleeves Earned in St. Albert at the Canadian BMX Racing Championships

Ottawa, ON (August. 25, 2025) – The energy was electric in St. Albert, AB this weekend as Canada’s fastest BMX racers took to the track for the 2025 Canadian BMX Racing Championships, where elite, U23, Junior and Challenge Class riders battled for national titles on a newly upgraded 8-metre start hill and world class track under sunny Alberta skies.

The event brought together a thrilling mix of seasoned elites and rising stars, with tight finishes and standout performances across all championship and challenge categories. In the Elite Men’s final, Ryan Tougas made a triumphant return from injury, charging to victory and earning the coveted maple leaf sleeve.

“It means a lot,” said Tougas. “Growing up, you watch guys like Tory Nyhaug with the sleeve, and you want to be like that. Getting to wear it now is a real honour. I know Molly is excited as well. The new Jakroo jerseys are sweet and we’re fired up to wear them.”

On the women’s side, Molly Simpson delivered a flawless weekend of racing to claim her Elite Women’s title, after missing the 2024 edition due to the Olympic Games. “It’s always an honour to have the sleeve,” said Simpson. “I felt really good this weekend. I just wanted to have fun and have smooth laps and that’s what I did. Being from Alberta and having nationals here was a bonus. I had a smile on my face the whole day.”

In the U23 categories, Dylan Tremel and Thessalie Bruneau took top honours in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively, showcasing the depth and momentum of Canada’s next generation of BMX talent.

The Junior titles went to Lucas Zhou (Junior Men) and Victoria Dubé (Junior Women), both who raced with confidence and control to secure their first national championship wins.

Cycling Canada extends its congratulations to all newly crowned champions and the generation of cycling youth to come. Another thank you also to the volunteers, officials, and St. Albert BMX community for a high-energy and unforgettable championship weekend.
