Brossard (Québec) – The Board of Directors of the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) is announcing new conditions on accessing the services of its Dispute Resolution Secretariat, effective immediately.
The following services will remain free-of-charge under the new regime, subject only to a filing fee pursuant to the Canadian Sport Dispute Resolution Code:
- Selection of athletes and coaches to the national team, to international competitions and to international multisport events only, in sport organizations funded under the Sport Support Program (SSP);
- Any other dispute under the Ordinary Tribunal directly affecting national team athletes or national team coaches in sport organizations funded under the SSP;
- Disputes arising out of the administration of the Athlete Assistance Program;
- Doping cases against members of sport organizations funded under the SSP, as well as related doping appeals (no filing fee is applicable to doping-related matters);
- Requests for a review of Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP) decisions by a person subject to a provisional measure or a final sanction consisting of a full and unconditional suspension.
All other services are now offered exclusively on a fee-for-service basis, including:
- Matters of governance, disputes affecting volunteers, non-coaching employees, officials and other constituents of sport organizations funded under the SSP;
- All requests for review to the Safeguarding Tribunal allowed under the CSSP other than those described above;
- Appeals of Safeguarding Tribunal decisions arising from the CSSP.
All services that were previously offered on a fee-for-service basis remain as such, including disputes arising from sport organizations not funded under the SSP or appeals of safe sport decisions rendered by independent third parties.
“The SDRCC remains committed to offering the same level of professionalism in the delivery of its programs and in its efforts to keep the services as affordable as can be for members of the sport community,” stated Marie-Claude Asselin, Chief Executive Officer of the SDRCC. “These new conditions are rendered necessary due to insufficient funding to maintain the same range of services traditionally offered at no charge by the SDRCC over the last two decades.”
The SDRCC Board of Directors remains open to reverting these new service conditions to their prior free-of-charge status, should sufficient federal funding or other revenue-generating opportunities allow for it.
