Historic Silver for Team Canada in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics at Rhine-Ruhr 2025

Duisburg, Germany – History was made today as Team Canada’s Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) team captured silver at the 2025 FISU World University Games—Canada’s first-ever MAG team medal at a FISU Games. With a final score of 239.593, Canada finished second behind Japan (252.027) and ahead of Switzerland (239.162), marking a breakthrough moment for the Canadian men’s gymnastics program on the international stage.

The silver medal was earned by the outstanding team of Félix Dolci, William Emard, Ioannis Chronopoulos, Matteo Bardana, and Jayson Rampersad.

The competition began with an adrenaline-filled floor rotation that saw a few early mistakes, but the team quickly found its rhythm. Canada posted 38.466 on floor exercise before delivering confident performances on pommel horse (38.933), led by Jayson Rampersad. The team’s momentum carried through to rings (40.432), vault (41.432), and closed with four massive, high-scoring routines on high bar—ranking second in the field on that apparatus.

“Winning the silver medal for Canada is an incredible honour, and it represents so much more than just one performance,” said Felix Dollci. “Our team is climbing the international ranks like never before, and I truly believe this is just the beginning of a new era for Canadian men’s gymnastics. To stand on that podium, knowing we’re making history and pushing boundaries for our country, is something I’ll never forget.”

All-Around and Apparatus Finals Still to Come

The competition continues for Team Canada as William Émard and Ioannis Chronopoulos prepare to represent the nation in the Men’s All-Around Final on July 25. Emard qualified 4th with a score of 79.632, but will enter the final ranked 3rd due to the two-per-country rule. Chronopoulos also secured his spot, finishing 7th in qualifications with 78.964.

“After that 2nd place with the team, I’m more than energized for the All-Around final,” said Emard. “I’m looking forward to being out there once again and fighting for another medal.”

“I’m so proud of our team and how we stayed together and competed at such a high-level competition,” added Chronopoulos. “We showed that we have a spot alongside the best gymnasts in the world! I’m super excited to put it all out there and compete in the All-Around final!”

Canada will also be represented in multiple Apparatus Finals on July 26, including:

  • Floor – Felix Dollci (8th qualifier, 13.700)
  • Rings – William Emard (5th qualifier, 14.000)
  • Parallel Bars – William Emard (Reserve 2)
