Canada Soccer hosted its 2025 National Competitions Workshop in Ottawa from 24-26 July as organisational preparations continued for the upcoming Player-Development Program Championship and the National Championships. The National Competitions Workshop, led by Canada Soccer staff, featured the Chair of the Competitions Committee Judi Kelloway along with Match Commissioners, General Coordinators and Assistant General Coordinators who will be responsible for the in-venue operation and execution of the national amateur competitions.
This year marks the biggest year ever for Canada Soccer’s national amateur competitions with a record 130 qualified amateur teams set to take part in 14 divisions from the Futsal Canadian Championship in April to the Player-Development Program Championship in August and then the National Championships in October. Those 130 teams will qualify from a group of more than 1,100 teams taking part in competitive leagues and cup competitions from across the country.
The 2025 National Competitions Workshop featured both in-class and on-field sessions that provided education, support and discussion towards the staging of Canada Soccer’s national amateur competitions. The Friday sessions were hosted at TD Place followed by the opportunity to watch the Northern Super League professional match between Ottawa Rapid FC and Halifax Tides FC.
As part of Canada Soccer’s Youth Competitions Network, this year’s PDP Championship will be hosted in Vaughan (PDP U-17 Cup and PDP U-15 Cup) while the youth National Championships will be hosted in Kamloops (U-17 Cup) and Charlottetown (U-15 Cup). The Masters Championship will be hosted in Winnipeg while the National Championships for the Challenge Trophy and Jubilee Trophy will be hosted in St. John’s.
Canada Soccer’s PDP Championship and National Championships serve as pinnacle events to the 2025 season, bringing together the best amateur teams from across the country. This year marks the 101st edition of the men’s Challenge Trophy competition and the 42nd edition of the women’s Jubilee Trophy competition.
