[TORONTO, ON] July 22, 2025 – Tennis Canada today confirmed the list of seeded players for the 2025 National Bank Open presented by Rogers (NBO). The WTA event in Montreal will feature two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff of the United States as its top seed, while Germany’s Alexander Zverev, seven-time ATP Masters 1000 winner including the 2017 NBO, will enter Toronto’s event as the top-seeded player. The seedings follow the official WTA and ATP rankings as of Monday, July 21, with the top 32 ranked players entered in each tournament being seeded and benefitting from first-round byes.
Gauff, who won Roland-Garros in June, will be the No. 1 seed at the NBO for the second year running. The American has played the event in Canada four times, reaching the quarter-finals on three occasions, and is still in search of her first NBO title. Six-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek of Poland will be the No. 2 seed and will also be looking to secure her first trophy in Canada. American Jessica Pegula (No. 3), NBO champion in 2023 and 2024, is in a contrasting situation, as she seeks to become the first player to three-peat the tournament since her compatriot Monica Seles in 1997. Rising star Mirra Andreeva will be the No. 4 seed.
“Having Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, and Jessica Pegula lead the draw — alongside rising stars like Mirra Andreeva and Jasmine Paolini — and with nearly all of the world’s top 32 players in attendance, this year’s field is a true reflection of the incredible depth and talent we’re seeing on the WTA Tour,” said Valérie Tétreault, Tournament Director, NBO Montreal. “Leylah Annie Fernandez is just one spot away from joining this elite group of seeds, highlighting the strength of this year’s draw and giving Canadian tennis fans many players to cheer on.”
In Toronto, Zverev enters the field as world No. 3 and will be the tournament’s top seed. The German defeated Roger Federer in 2017 to capture the NBO title, which was the second of his seven ATP Masters 1000 titles. Joining Zverev among the top seeds will be Americans Taylor Fritz (No. 2 seed) and Ben Shelton (No. 4), and Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti (No. 3). In addition, three Canadians will be seeded for the first time in tournament history – Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime (No. 24 seed) and Gabriel Diallo (No. 32 seed), as well as Richmond Hill’s Denis Shapovalov (No. 25 seed).

The official draw ceremonies for the NBO will take place on Friday, July 25 at 12 p.m. (Toronto – ATP) and Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. (Montreal – WTA). As part of the extended format, players will now have rest days between matches, with the top half and bottom half of the draw alternating each day until the semi-finals.

The National Bank Open presented by Rogers is a world-class tournament owned and operated by Tennis Canada. In 2025, the event enters a new era with an expanded 12-day format that features a 96-player main draw.
