Consistency Leads to Victory for Three Canadians at 2025 Speedo Junior Elite National Championships

Montréal, July 18, 2025 – Although the competition was fierce, three Canadian divers managed to stand out from the crowd on Friday, capturing gold medals at the 2025 Speedo Junior Elite National Championships in Edmonton.

Chase Shaw (Calgary), who won gold in the boys’ 3m event yesterday, once again took top honours in today’s Group B platform contest.

Shaw secured his second gold medal of the tournament with 429.10 points. Nikos Tzanetakis (408.05 points) and Alistair Nisbet (367.50 points) finished second and third, respectively. Nisbet also won bronze in Thursday’s 3m event.

A little earlier, Lauren Vickaryous (Regina) triumphed in the girls’ Group B 3m springboard competition. After pulling ahead on her first dive, she held on to her lead throughout the finals, finishing with 420.00 points.

“It was difficult, but I remained consistent, and things turned out well. I’m really proud of myself, and I hope my coach is proud of my performance, too,” she said. “I was really nervous going into the finals, but I knew that if I just focused on the present, took it one dive at a time, and heeded my coach’s advice, I could do well.”

Alberta’s Daniela Durevska (Calgary) finished second with 395.80 points, while Jocelyn Casey (Windsor) took bronze with 391.95 points. It was the second podium finish in Edmonton for both divers, who won gold and bronze in Thursday’s 1m finals.

“A dream day”

Mathias Desmarais, who trains with iDive, made a big impact with his three last dives in the boys’ Group A 1m finals, grossing a total of 482.80 points to capture gold.

“I’m really proud of having been able to stay calm despite all the pressure, because I had never felt so much pressure in a competition before,” said Desmarais. “My performance was incredible. Those were the best dives of my life!”

Jackson Congdon (BDA) secured silver with 473.15 points, one day after winning gold in the 3m event. Emeric Drainville-Lamothe (Agami) earned bronze with a final score of 469.55.

“Today was a dream day. Consistency was my best friend!” exclaimed Desmarais.

The 2025 Speedo Junior Elite National Championships will continue on Saturday at the Kinsmen Sports Centre. The day’s program will feature the girls’ Group A 3m and Group B platform events, as well as the boys’ Group B 1m contest.
