Canada Sets the Lineup for 2025 NACAC Championships Team

With a month to go before the 2025 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Track and Field Championships, Athletics Canada has announced the 30 athletes slated to compete at the regional championship next month.

For many of the athletes named to the team, this trip to the Bahamas will be a crucial stop on the road to the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

“Anytime you can test yourself against a fairly deep field and strong field, it’s a good opportunity for athletes to come in and get a competition at a high caliber event, especially going into the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where the rest of the world will be there,” said head coach Glenroy Gilbert.

“This competition is an excellent opportunity to prepare for Worlds in September. It allows us to compete against athletes who will be at the World Championships, and really prepare us for that event,” said sprinter Audrey Leduc. “There is always a sense of team spirit when we all come together at the same competition representing our country. We encourage each other so that everyone can achieve their best.”

Meet Team Canada
Leduc makes her first appearance at the senior NACAC Championships, though she did score a silver medal as part of the Canadian 4×100 metre relay team, at the 2019 NACAC U23 Championships in Mexico.

Now a multiple Canadian champion, Canadian record holder, and a 2024 Olympian, Audrey Leduc has big goals for the Championships.

“My goals for the competition will be to first execute each of my races well, with a view to preparing myself well for the World Championships,” Leduc said. “I would love to win one or more medals and also set some personal bests.”

She is one of 20 athletes making their NACAC debut for Canada, while there are 10 NACAC Track & Field Championships veterans on the roster. There are also 17 members of this team who have represented Canada at the Olympic Games, and 19 athletes who have competed at the World Athletics Championships on this squad.

“The team has veteran athletes, the ones that have been there, done that, and then some of the newcomers where this is going to be a pretty significant competition for them. We can expect a high caliber competition, that will be beneficial to all the athletes,” Gilbert said. “When you name a national team, and the athletes get their Canadian kit, from that moment on, there’s a brotherhood. They are rooting for one another, supporting one another, on and off the track, towards positive performances.”
