Canada wins 18 medals at 2025 U20 Pan-American Championships

LIMA, PERU – It was a very successful week for the Canadian wrestlers as they captured 18 total medals at the 2025 U20 Pan-American (Pan-Am) Championships, July 10-12, in Lima Peru. Each of the women captured a medal for 10 total (two gold, four silver, four bronze). Meanwhile, the men earned eight medals (one gold, three silver, four bronze). Both the women and the men finished second overall in the team competition.

Women’s Results
Gold medals were won by Maple Ridge, British Columbia’s Agnia Krakovska at 57kg and Calgary’s Annika Fines at 62kg. Krakovska, from Coast RTC, was in a round robin and went a perfect 3-0 in the group portion of the competition. She advanced to the semifinal where she beat Thania Anibal Ribeiro of Brazil 7-4. That moved her on to the final where she scored a thrilling victory, 4-4 by criteria, over American Carissa Qureshi.

As for Fines, from Dinos Wrestling Club, she was in a traditional bracket. She won her quarterfinal 11-1 over Carina Giangeruso of Puerto Rico and then her semifinal by the same score over Leonela Gruezo of Ecuador. She matched up with American Lilly Luft in the final and came away with a 2-1 victory.

“I am really excited about the win. I think I wrestled a great finals match, I was very strategic, so overall I am just very pleased with my performance today,” said Fines after the win.

Earning silver medals were: Saskatoon’s Abby Wolff at 55kg, Calgary’s Mackenzie Cayer at 65kg, Toronto’s Kiki Idowu at 72kg, and Abbotsford, British Columbia’s Rupinder Johal at 76kg.

Bronze medals went to: Saskatoon’s Elizabeth Chapman at 50kg, Mississauga’s Brooklyn Glasgow at 53kg, Port Moody, British Columbia’s Ella Finding at 59kg, and Lene-Marie McCrackin at 68kg.

Men’s Results
The men were led by Brunswick, Ohio’s Kade Brown. Brown, a dual citizen who recently declared for Canada and now trains out of Coast RTC, captured gold at 70kg. Brown was in a traditional bracket and opened with an 11-0 win over Josuel Medina of Puerto Rico. In the semifinal, he scored a win by criteria, 2-2, over American Jaxon Joy. That set up a final against Mexico’s Jazziel Balam. Brown had no trouble in the final, wining 11-0 to secure the gold.

“Overall, I think I wrestled hard today. My coaches and I came in knowing that I was going to have to scrap and would have some tough matches. I think I wrestled smart, stayed tough, was ready to scrap and got out there and made it a war.”

Canada’s three silver medals went to: Abbotsford, British Columbia’s Michaeljeet Grewal at 92kg, Abbotsford’s Tejvir Dhinsa at 97kg, and Caledon, Ontario’s Chanjot Kang at 125kg.

Bronze medals were won by: Brunswick’s Karson Brown at 61kg, Edmonton’s Khalin Radev at 65kg, Cochrane, Alberta’s Nick Hooper at 74kg and Surrey, British Columbia’s Rohit Bal at 86kg.
