The Coaching Association of Canada Celebrates 25 Years of the Canadian Journal for Women in Coaching

Ottawa, ON – July 9, 2025 – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is proud to announce the 25th anniversary edition of the Canadian Journal for Women in Coaching. Since its inaugural issue in 2000, the Journal has served as a vital platform to amplify the voices of women in coaching, spotlight emerging research, and advocate for systemic change across all levels of sport.

Over the past 25 years, the Journal has published more than 100 thought-provoking articles, featuring perspectives from coaches, athletes, researchers, and sport leaders. As a publication able to reach larger, more diverse audiences within and outside of Canada, the Journal continues to be a space to showcase the success stories of coaches and sport partners in their efforts to address gender inequity. From tackling barriers to entry, to sharing stories of resilience and leadership, the Journal has helped share coaching experiences, research, and leading practices that support the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in coaching roles across Canada and beyond.

“The Canadian Journal for Women in Coaching has always been a platform meant to carve out space for and to amplify the voices of women in coaching” says Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC. “By documenting the challenges and successes of women in sport, the Journal has driven meaningful conversations and progress towards equity in coaching. This 25th anniversary edition honours that legacy while looking ahead to the work still to be done.”

To commemorate the milestone, the special edition features retrospective highlights, insights from legacy contributors, and a forward-looking vision for the future of women in coaching. The CAC invites coaches, sport organizations, and equity advocates to explore and share this edition as a tribute to the past and a call to action for the next generation to continue the integral work towards gender equity and improving the lives and conditions of women in coaching.
