Coaching Association of Canada Welcomes New Members to Board of Directors

Ottawa, ON – June 27, 2025 – The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is pleased to welcome five new Directors to its Board, following the conclusion of terms for five respected outgoing members. This transition reflects the CAC’s ongoing commitment to strong governance and to ensuring the voices at its leadership table reflect the diversity of Canada’s sport system.

The CAC Board of Directors is composed of 15 members representing key sectors of the Canadian sport community. Together, the Board provides strategic direction and oversight, supporting the CAC’s mission to enhance the experience of all athletes in Canada through quality coaching.

Newly Appointed Members:

Jill Wurflinger – National Sport Organization Member
Jill is a nationally recognized program leader and Chartered Professional Coach with more than fifteen years of experience driving inclusion-focused, capacity building initiatives in the Canadian sport and non-profit sectors. She most recently led the volunteer program for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, overseeing the recruitment, training, and coordination of over 2,000 volunteers across 11 venues. A longtime coach, facilitator, and advocate for representation, equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI), Jill has held senior roles with the Rick Hansen Foundation, Rowing Canada, and St. John Ambulance. Her strategic insight, operational acumen, and dedication to coach development make her a valuable addition to the CAC Board.

Erin Durant – Member-at-Large
Erin is a leading sport and litigation lawyer and the founder of Durant Barristers. Her firm is recognized nationally for its work on safe sport, investigations, and legal counsel to amateur and professional sport organizations. Erin has appeared at all levels of court and before numerous regulatory bodies and tribunals, including the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada. A former professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, she is a trusted voice on governance, athlete safety, and access to justice. Erin’s numerous accolades include being named one of Canada’s Most Influential Lawyers by Canadian Lawyer Magazine.

Dr. Linda Rohr – CCUPEKA Representative
Linda is the Dean of the Faculty of Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor, where she oversees both the Department of Kinesiology and the Division of Athletics and Recreation Services. Her leadership spans nearly two decades in academia, including roles as Dean and Associate Dean at Memorial University. Linda is a former President of CCUPEKA and has served on advisory boards and community sport councils across Canada. Her research focuses on the psycho-social benefits of physical activity across the lifespan, with a commitment to fostering health, inclusion, and community well-being through sport and recreation.

Mercedes Watson – Provincial/Territorial Coaching and Sport Leadership Council Representative
Mercedes is a passionate advocate for coach education and development, currently serving as a Director with the Coaches Association of Ontario. With a Master of Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia and a background in teaching and program coordination, she has spent over a decade helping coaches enhance their skills across both community and competitive levels. A long-time hockey coach and outdoor enthusiast, Mercedes brings an energetic and thoughtful approach to supporting coaches across Canada.

Mark Marshall – Provincial/Territorial Coaching and Sport Leadership Council Representative
Mark brings over three decades of leadership in Canadian sport, having served in coaching, technical, and executive roles across both Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador. A Master Coach Developer with Canada Soccer, Sport NL, and the Coaching Association of Ontario, he has facilitated training across Canada and internationally. Mark’s expertise spans across provincial teams, national youth development, and executive-level sport administration. As the Sport Development Director at Sport NL, he is widely respected for his dedication to inclusive sport, strong governance, and supporting coaches at all levels.

The CAC would like to express gratitude to outgoing Board members Mathieu Boucher, Dr. René Murphy, Susan Lamboo, Janice Dawson, and Sue Hylland for their contributions over the years. Their leadership and dedication have played a vital role in shaping the organization’s direction and advancing the coaching profession in Canada.

The Federal Government Representative seat is currently vacant and will be filled through the CAC’s established nomination process.
