Diving Canada – EL NIDO, The Philippines – Montreal’s Lysanne Richard won the bronze medal in the 21-metre women’s event at the season opening stop on the Red Bull World Series Cliff diving circuit on Saturday.

World champion Rhiannan Iffland of Australia, the most decorated female athlete in the sport, took the gold with 329.25 points followed by Yana Nestsiarava of Belarus at 319.35. Richard followed at 309.70 just three points off her personal best.

‘’I’m very pleased to have a successful start to the season,’’ said Richard, a 37-year-old mother of three with 10 career podium appearances on the circuit.

Richard never received lower than 7.5 from the judges and was scored as high as 9.0 in her three rounds of diving.

‘’There are a lot of elements I need to improve,’’ she said. ‘’But I’m motivated, willing to work hard and have great support.’’

Richard, a former Cirque du Soleil performer, placed third in the overall standings last year with 690 points.

Next on the seven-stop tour is Dublin on May 12.
