Margo Erlam Dominates, Benjamin Tessier Comes from Behind to Clinch National Title

Montréal, May 25, 2025 – Local fan favourite Margo Erlam delighted the crowd on Sunday, the final day of the Canadian Summer Championships in Saskatoon. The Olympian, who trains at the Saskatoon Diving Club, dominated the 3m springboard finals with a total score of 335.70, while two athletes from the CAMO Club in Quebec—Mia Vallée and Amélie-Laura Jasmin—battled it out for second place. Jasmin (318.00) ultimately edged out Vallée (300.60) to capture the silver medal.

“I’m very relieved and very happy! After Paris, my main goal was simply to love my sport,” said Erlam. “This week has been stressful, and I felt a lot of pressure, given that it’s my first competition since the Olympic Games. But I just wanted to enjoy diving again, and I’ve succeeded in that,” added the newly crowned national champion, who held first place throughout today’s event.

The 22-year-old began training again after a nearly five-month hiatus following her 22nd place finish in the 3m springboard event at the Paris Olympics. It was not an easy endeavour.

“When you begin training again, it’s hard on your body. But it was totally worth it, because I love training and I love my team, and that helps a lot,” said Erlam, who has also qualified for the World Championships in Singapore in July.

Benjamin Tessier rallies from behind to win

While Erlam may have dominated her competition from start to finish, Benjamin Tessier’s experience in the men’s 10m platform finals was quite different. The Québécois, who trains at the CAMO Club, found himself in seventh place after his first attempt. He subsequently made a spectacular comeback to finish first, with 450.20 points.

Matt Cullen (Envol, 426.35) secured the silver medal by leaping up two spots in the standings on his sixth and final dive. Luc Goertzen (Calgary, 242.75) rounded out the podium.

“It seems like when I put myself in a high-pressure situation, I dive better. For my first dive, I felt a lot of stress and energy, and that’s something I’ll have to work on with my coach. So after that, I told myself I couldn’t mess up any more of my dives, and that I had to ace them all. And it worked!” said the relieved-sounding gold medallist.

It was Tessier’s fourth plunge (89.10 points) that propelled him to the head of the standings, where he remained until the end of the competition. His final score also qualified him for the upcoming World Championships.

“It’s a big weight off my shoulders, especially since I saw all my friends qualify. I really wanted to go to the Singapore World Championships with them. I have a lot of work ahead of me, and I’m going to give my all over the coming month to make sure I arrive there an even better diver.”

The 20-year-old athlete, who has been competing for the past two months, will take a short break before resuming his training.
