Montréal, April 27, 2025 – Silver medallist in the Women’s 1m springboard yesterday, Lila Stewart wasn’t quite finished writing her success story at the International Diving Meet in Dresden. The Regina-based athlete dominated the Women’s Group A 3m springboard final on Sunday, en route to the top step of the podium.
Stewart won gold with an almost 30-point lead on Sunday morning. Once again, she saved her best dive on her final jump, which earned her 64.50 points, bringing her total to 417.00.
“It’s been an absolutely great day! I’m really happy, I stayed focused until the very end and I couldn’t have hoped for a better way to end the competition than to win a gold medal. There was a lot of atmosphere here, my Canadian team-mates were noisy, it was really fun”, shared Stewart.
“There was a lot of competition, but I knew that if I did all of my dives well, I had a good chance of winning. I’m very proud of my first dive, it was the first time I’d done it in competition, and it went well. Honestly, it set the tone for the entire rest of the final,” she added.
The Canadian was joined on the podium by Czech Tereza Jelinkova (388.95) for silver, and Australian Emily Francis (387.80) for bronze.
Ella Lindsay also competed in the final and finished in 12th place with 316.70 points.
In Men’s diving action, two Canadians were also in the final in the Men’s Group A platform. Dean Calfacacos (477.55) and Kash Tarasoff (473.05) were achingly close to medals themselves, taking fourth and fifth places respectively in their final.
Calfacacos and Tarasoff were both brilliant in their second dive from the tower, earning 72.00 and 80.00 points respectively; it was this consistency of performance that confirmed their places in the top-5.
The gold was won by Italy’s Simone Conte with 525.60 points, while Germany’s Tim Kungel (494.15) took silver, and Sweden’s Peder Saur Hubred (485.40) finished third.
