Climbing Escalade Canada Makes History with Youth Boulder Regional Championships in New Provinces

OTTAWA, ON — Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) is thrilled to launch the 2024-2025 Youth Boulder Regional Championships with record participation and a major milestone for the sport in Canada. For the first time in CEC history, national pathway events will be hosted outside of the traditional four provinces—marking a historic expansion to Nova Scotia and Manitoba.

This weekend, 184 athletes will compete at Seven Bays Bouldering in Halifax, NS, while 178 athletes will take on the walls at The Hive Climbing in Winnipeg, MB—bringing the total number of competitors to an unprecedented 362 youth athletes (Youth A, Youth B, Youth C) from across the country.

“These events mark a true milestone for the growth of our sport,” said Christiane Marceau, Executive Director of Climbing Escalade Canada. “Hosting Regional Championships in new provinces is a meaningful step toward our mission of making competitive climbing more accessible and representative of our national community.”

The Youth Boulder Regional Championships are a key part of the national high-performance pathway. The Top 14 athletes in each category from these events will qualify for the Youth Boulder National Championships, set to take place in May in Surrey, British Columbia.

This weekend’s events will feature young climbers in Youth C, Youth B, and Youth A categories, competing in qualification and final rounds under CEC’s nationally aligned rules and formats. While no livestream will be available, real-time results will be posted at https://cec.results.info, keeping the broader community engaged throughout the weekend.

CEC extends its gratitude to the host gyms, local volunteers, and provincial partners who made these events possible, and celebrates the incredible enthusiasm of the Canadian climbing community from coast to coast. We also wish to thank our contracted team of Routesetters and Officials, whose professionalism and dedication ensure the highest standard of competition.

Finally, we are grateful to our key partners, including the Government of Canada for its continued sport funding, and Electrolit, Official Hydration Partner of Climbing Escalade Canada, for supporting athlete health and performance.
