Two Top-Ten Finishes in Brasilia

April 21, 2025: Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, both of Toronto, earned a fifth placing at the Beach Pro Tour Brasilia Elite 16 after a quarterfinal loss to Brazilians Carol Solberg & Rebecca Cavalcanti on Saturday.

On the road to the playoffs, the Canadian Olympic silver medalists won their pool and defeated an Italian duo to advance to the quarters.

Also in Brasilia, Sam Schachter (Richmond Hill, ON) and Jonny Pickett (Wiarton, ON), who were second in their pool, finished ninth overall after a round of 12 battle with number-one seed Norway. Norway won 2-0 (24-22, 21-15).

Canada’s Marie-Alex Bélanger (QC) and Lea Monkhouse (ON) qualified for the main draw and finished ranked 19th overall.

USA’s Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher won women’s gold over home-crowd favourites Carol/Rebecca.

Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot of the Netherlands won the men’s final over Evandro Oliveira and Arthur Mariano Lanci of Brazil.
