Beach Update: Canada Advances to Semis

Volleyball Canada – July 05, 2019: Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) and Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) made quick work of Italy this morning at the FIVB Beach World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.  In the quarterfinals, Canada (seeded ninth in the tournament, sixth in the world ranking) defeated 24-seeded Marta Menegatti/Viktoria Orsi Toth of Italy 2-0 (21-12, 21-12).

They play Nina Betschart/Tanja Huberli of Switzerland, who beat Brazil 2-1 in their quarterfinal this morning.  Australia (Clancy/Artacho Del Solar) faces the United States (Klineman/Ross) in the other women’s semi-final at 1:15pm ET. 

The match featuring Pavan/Humana-Paredes will be online in Canada at www.cbcsports.ca at 2:30 pm ET. (20:30 local in Hamburg on July 05).   
 
Canadian final standings (as of July 05):
Heather Bansley & Brandie Wilkerson – 17th
Sam Pedlow & Sam Schachter – 17th
Ben Saxton & Grant O’Gorman- 17th
Megan and Nicole McNamara – 33rd
