Volleyball Canada – This year’s Beach Volleyball Nationals wrapped up at Ashbridges Bay in Toronto on Sunday, with national champions, drawn from 10 participating provinces, crowned in youth and senior categories.  A total of 203 teams participated in the 2019 tournament.

The senior women’s event was won by Julie Gordon and Shanice Marcelle 2-0 (21-16, 21-10) over Laura Condotta and Alina Dormann, all representing Ontario. Jae-Lyn Visscher and Whitney Follette (Alberta) won the bronze.

The senior men’s gold medal went to Quebec’s Simon Fecteau-Boutin and Ivan Reka after posting a 2-0 (21-17, 21-14) win over Sergiy Grabovskyy and Chris Towe of Ontario. Fiodar Kazhamiaka and Matthew Donovan won the men’s bronze medal match.

“I would like to thank our sponsors and partners, including lululemon, Wilson, Performance Health, and VolleyballStuff,” said Volleyball Canada’s Director of Domestic Events, Sandra de Graaff.  “Also we greatly appreciate the contribution of volunteers, referees, the Ontario Volleyball Association, the Toronto Sport and Social Club and staff who worked very hard to make this event a success.”

Despite some weather challenges earlier in the weekend, all events were completed by Sunday afternoon.

Other activities included a Canadian beach volleyball alumni event, which featured beach volleyball Olympians, held on the Saturday night of the tournament at the Balmy Beach Club, and well-attended training sessions with Volleyball Canada’s beach national team coaching staff, Steve Anderson and Adriana Bento.
