About the Job:
The OSC is seeking a dynamic, highly organized Communications Lead to join our team in a part-time role. The Communications Lead will work closely with the OSC’s Executive Director, partner organizations and members to successfully fulfill our mandate. Work will be conducted from your home office and the Ottawa Sport Council office at the House of Sport. This position may also require field visits to members and offsite events within the City of Ottawa.
Start Date: February 2025
Hours: The Communications Lead working hours will be approximately 5-10 per week. Due to the nature of the role, this work may include evening and weekend work.

You enjoy creative writing and see the power in words to relay the message to spark interest and engagement. You are open to learning new software and technology to assist with communications and marketing.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications
- Develop content for the organization’s website, social media, newsletters, and press releases.
- Ensure consistent messaging across communications that align with the communications strategy and organizational mandate.
- Measure and report on key performance indicators of communication campaigns.
- Support member engagement strategies through regular outreach and field visits.
- Research and apply communication trends to enhance strategy and outputs.
- Manage content updates and general maintenance of the company website.
- Collaborate with web developers to create new website pages and sections, including vision and content plans.
Other Operational Support
- Participate in project planning sessions and develop communications plans for specific projects and deliverables.
- Assist the Executive Director with grant writing and applications.
- Conduct communications and educational research, development, and execution.
- Support project monitoring, feedback, and evaluation processes.
- Manage the monthly communications schedule and work plan.
- Implement and manage changes to achieve communication goals.
- Ensure all communications and information submissions meet deadlines.
- Maintain documentation and communicate key updates.
- Measure communication metrics and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and partners.
- Support funder management, including recognition events and yearly reporting.
- Handle Board of Directors government filings and reporting.
Essential Skills
- Passion for and familiarity with Ottawa’s community sport scene.
- Self-starter, capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Proactive and able to identify areas of opportunity to support strategic priorities.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Creative, leveraging diverse communication tools (audio, photo, video) to deliver engaging messages.
- Excellent writing skills, with attention to content, grammar, and spelling for various platforms (social media, press releases, reports, web content, educational materials).
- Technical knowledge of managing social media platforms, websites, email, and video conferencing tools.
- Familiarity with project management processes, including creating schedules and work plans.
- Knowledge of inclusive and accessible digital communication practices.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or business administration.
- Post-secondary education in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
- Understanding of the Canadian sport system.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
- Bilingualism is an asset, including the use of translation software.
- Experience in amateur sports and/or non-profit organizations.
- Experience delivering or working with community programs serving diverse members.
- Proficiency in WordPress for content management and website improvements.
Salary Range: $25–$30 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is a one-year contractor term.
