National Coaches Week, which runs this year from September 21st to 29th, 2019 is a time to celebrate the positive impact coaches have on athletes and their communities across Canada.
 

Calgary, Alta. (September 19, 2019) – Coaches play a valuable role in athlete development and performance, as well as the responsibility of providing an environment that promotes athletes’ health and safety. In addition to sport specific skills, coaches are also required to excel at organizing, communicating while being a role model and teacher.

Alpine Canada sat down with its new men’s speed team head coach and alumnus, John Kucera, to talk retirement, transitioning into coaching, and family.
Calgary, Alta. (September 16, 2019) – The 2009 downhill World Champion and the first Canadian to win a World Cup race on home snow at Lake Louise, John Kucera, heads into the 2019-20 season as the new men’s speed team head coach, a position he assumed this summer following five seasons of coaching the national men’s team up-and-coming speed racers at the developmental and Europa Cup level.

CANADA SKI CROSS ALUMNI GEORGIA SIMMERLING ADDS PAN-AM CHAMPION TO HER RESUME
Calgary, Alta. (September 13, 2019) – Two years ago, Georgia Simmerling saw her dream of attending her fourth Olympic Games disappear in an instant. In the last Ski Cross World Cup race before the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Simmerling crashed in the semi-finals, suffering catastrophic injuries. In a split second, Simmerling broke both of her legs, and extensively injuring her left knee.
