Canada surpasses best ever medal total at Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

CANBERRA, Australia – Canada won two more medals Saturday to close out the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships with 16.

The haul from the Australian Institute of Sport Aquatic Centre in Canberra surpasses the country’s best ever total from the 2016 edition of the championships.

Ella Cosgrove of Dorval (Que.) Swim Club was Canada’s final individual medallist, earning bronze in the women’s 800-m freestyle. Her time of 8:40.00 was just behind American Kennedi Dobson (8:39.61). Kayla Han of Team USA won in 8:36.77.

“It feels so good. It’s Day 4 so it’s the last night so I was really just trying to take in all the energy, all the fun, cheering for my teammates and really just did my best,” said Cosgrove, who finished fourth in the 400 earlier in the meet and helped the 4×200 freestyle relay earn silver. “I was just trying to make myself proud. Swimming is such a long journey, so just soaking in every moment and enjoying the wins is always important.”

The men’s 4×100-m medley relay then capped the championships with sliver. Aiden Norman, Oliver Dawson, Nicholas Duncan and Laon Kim combined for a time of 3:36.13, behind only Team USA (3:35.60). The host Australians took third in 3:39.41.

It was the sixth medal of the championships for Norman, who swept both backstroke distances individually, and added two silver and two bronze in relays.

Canada had two other fourth-place finishes Saturday. Dawson finished just off the podium in the men’s 200-m breaststroke (2:14.20), while Jordan Greber did the same in the 200-m individual medley (2:16.41).

The event, held every two years, brings together the best junior swimmers from Charter nations Australia, USA, Canada and Japan. Invitations are also extended to other non-European nations, with regular participants including Singapore and New Zealand. The University of British Columbia Aquatic Centre will host the next edition Aug. 17-20, 2026, in Vancouver.
