Eric’s Peter’s wraps up his Paris 2024 Olympics with a 9th place finish

Paris, FRA – Eric Peters (ON) made his final appearance on the iconic field at Les Invalides today as the archery competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics concluded with the men’s Individual event.

Shooting early in the ⅛ elimination rounds, Peters faced Mauro Nespoli, the silver medalist from Tokyo 2020 and currently tied with Peters at 5th in the World Archery world rankings. The match promised to be challenging, and it did not disappoint.

Nespoli took an early 2-0 lead over Peters, after Peters started with a shaky first end. He responded quickly though, shooting a 10-10-10, which Nespoli matched. Peters maintained the pressure, tying the 2nd and 3rd sets, where Nespoli had the 4-2 lead. Despite Peters’ efforts, he could not secure the win, and Nespoli advanced to the quarterfinals.

“It’s tough right now,” said Peters following the match. He continued, “I feel like I really tried, really tried to put my best out there and didn’t feel like I brought it today. It’s tough to walk away with that sort of shooting”

National Coach Advisor Ron van der Hoff commented, “It is tough right now, there are many, what if’s? But there are no regrets. It is amazing to be in this position. It sucks to be close, but that is also why we all love this sport.”

This match wraps up an incredible three-year Olympic cycle for Peters, who has been a rising star on the Canadian and international archery scene. Throughout this period, Peters has demonstrated remarkable dedication and skill. His journey to Paris 2024 was marked by numerous highlights, including his strong performances at the World Archery Championships and his consistent ranking among the world’s top archers.

The Canadian Archery team came into the Olympics as one team, with each athlete, coach [Ron van der Hoff], Mental Performance Consultant [Joe Leszner] playing a integral part in the overall plan for both Virginie Chenier and Eric Peters, but as well for all of them as one team. Their success at these games reflects the cohesiveness, belief and dedication they all made on this Olympic Journey. We look forward to seeing what they will be able to achieve next!
