Montreal, QC (July 15, 2024) – Tennis Canada announced today that Félix Auger-Aliassime (Montreal, QC), Denis Shapovalov (Richmond Hill, ON), Gabriel Diallo (Montreal, QC), Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON), and Vasek Pospisil (Vernon, BC), will represent Team Canada at the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage in September.
Led by captain Frank Dancevic, the Canadians will feature in Group D alongside Great Britain, Finland, and Argentina at the AO Arena in Manchester, Great Britain, from September 10 to 15.
In the Davis Cup Qualifiers in February, the Canadian team defeated the Republic of Korea 3-1 at IGA
Stadium in Montreal, securing their place in the Davis Cup Finals for the fifth consecutive year.
“We are absolutely delighted to be taking such a strong team to Manchester for the Davis Cup Group
Stage,” said captain Frank Dancevic. “This group of players has a great mix of youth and experience, and
we look forward to testing ourselves against strong opponents. It will be a challenge but we are confident
we can be successful and qualify for the Final 8.”
Félix Auger-Aliassime, currently ranked No. 17 on the ATP Tour and the highest-ranked among
Canadian men, will lead Team Canada. At just 23 years old, he already boasts a solid Davis Cup record
of nine wins and just four losses. He played a crucial role in Canada’s recent successes, including the
historic 2022 victory where he clinched the deciding victory over Australia’s Alex de Minaur, ensuring
Canada would lift the iconic trophy for the first time in history.
Denis Shapovalov, 25, will represent Canada for the tenth time in his Davis Cup career. Since his debut
in 2016, Shapovalov has been a cornerstone of the team with an impressive 14 wins. He was also pivotal
in the historic 2022 victory, winning his singles match against Thanasi Kokkinakis in the championship tie. With a career-high ranking of No. 10 (2020), he is among the most talented players on the ATP circuit.
Milos Raonic, 33 years old, has been nominated for the 16th time in his career, and will be aiming to add
to his record of 19 wins. Raonic, formerly ranked No. 3 in the world and a 2016 Wimbledon finalist, is
known for his powerful serve and experience on the international stage. His most-recent Davis Cup
appearance came in last year’s Group Stage as he beat Finland’s Patrick Kaukovalta 6-3, 7-5.
Vasek Pospisil, 34 years old, brings a wealth of experience with his 25th selection to the Davis Cup
team. With career-high rankings of No. 25 in singles and No. 4 in doubles, Pospisil counts a Wimbledon doubles title among his achievements. He has been instrumental in Canada’s past Davis Cup
successes,with 32 wins under his belt.
Gabriel Diallo, 22 years old, continues to rise on the international circuit, achieving a career-high ranking
of No. 129this year. Diallo has shown impressive form this season, including qualifying for the main draw
of the French Open. He will seek to make a significant contribution to the team, as he did earlier this year
in the Davis Cup Qualifiers tie against the Republic of Korea in Montreal, where he enjoyed two singles
victories.
In the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage, 16 countries will compete in four separate groups. The top two
teams from each group will advance to Final 8, taking place from November 19 to 24 in Malaga, Spain.
