Leading up to the 2021-2022 adoption of harmonized safe sport policies, Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) worked with stakeholders to build awareness and understanding of the issues and goals related to a safe sport culture in rowing. In the rollout of the policies, RCA committed that the policies would be open to review and changes in the future as part of the ongoing commitment to a safe sport culture.

As part of that commitment, in the fall of 2023, a working group was formed. The working group conducted a survey open to all rowing stakeholders to gain insight into current perceptions around rowing’s safe sport initiatives and overall safe sport culture.  The number of responses to the survey was significant and provided a large amount of data from which next steps have been established. While the working group was pleased with the positive responses in general, the feedback reinforces that safe sport education and support at the community level needs to be ongoing.

The working group would like to share some of the key take-aways and next steps with the RCA membership during a webinar on Wednesday April 3rd, 2024, at 4:30pm PT/5:30pm MT/6:30pm CT/7:30pm ET/8:30pm AT/9:00pm NT.

Topics will include the key take-aways from the survey and next steps and anticipated timelines on items such as policy revisions and areas that require ongoing education, training and resource development.

Please register for the session by 9am PT/12pm ET on Wednesday, March 27.
