Canada’s Ericsson Skis to First World Cup Win

Calgary, AB. (Feb 1, 2024) — Kalle Ericsson (Kimberley, BC), and guide Sierra Smith (Ottawa, ON), topped the podium at today’s FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup slalom in Cortina d’Ampezzo (ITA) for their first career World Cup victory. In their first season together, and in just their seventh race on the World Cup circuit, Ericsson and Smith now have four podiums including a second in last week’s slalom in Veysonnaz
(SUI).

Racing in the men visually impaired category the pair dominated the day, winning today by over seven seconds.

“It feels a little surreal,” said Ericsson. “First World Cup win feels pretty awesome. Didn’t know what to expect joining the World Cup circuit and it’s been an awesome experience so far and excited to
see what we can do in the future.”

“We didn’t have any expectations today,” added Smith. “Our plan was to go out there and ski our best. Just send it, ski our hardest, and get to the bottom. Things played out pretty well.”

Coming off back-to-back podiums in Cortina this week, Kurt Oatway (Calgary, AB), finished ninth in today’s slalom in the men sitting category.
