OTTAWA, ON – Following the conclusion of the score submission period, Archery Canada is pleased to announce the compound team members that will be attending the World Archery Youth Championships in Limerick, Ireland from July 3 to 9, 2023.
The U21 male athletes that will attend are:
- Adam Berge (AB)
- Ryan Cherniak (MB)
- Kolby Boutilier (NS)
The U21 female team will be made up of:
- Chyler Sanders (MB)
- Brynnleigh Lohner (AB)
- Jyotsna Challa (NS)
The U18 male athletes shooting in Limerick are:
- Keegan Crawford (PE)
- Riley Warwa (AB)
- Emmett Kapaniuk (YT)
The U18 female athletes that will attend are:
- Madelynn Holkema (AB)
- Bailey Mathers (MB)
- Jordyn Polowaniuk (AB)
While two athletes who had qualified declined the assignment, the U21 team boasts quite a strong depth of experience. Chyler Sanders has a medal on the international stage and will look to add more hardware in Ireland. Jyotsna Challa and Brynnleigh Lohner also bring continental competition experience from the 2022 Youth and Masters Pan Am Championships with them, while Adam Berge and Ryan Cherniak most recently competed at the 2023 Canada Winter Games, where they both earned medals for their performances.
The U18 athletes have less experience under their belts but will be looking to make their mark in Limerick. Bailey Mathers and Keegan Crawford both shot on the continental stage during the Youth and Masters Pan Am Championships in Halifax last year and will take advantage of the opportunity to shoot on the international stage this summer. Madelynn Holkema and Jordyn Polowaniuk are the newcomers to the group, but have shot strong scores leading up to the decision and will aim to continue that pattern at the World Archery Youth Championships.
The event features U21 and U18 athletes from across the world in both the recurve and compound categories. It is the highest level of competition for the youth archery categories for which Archery Canada sends a team. In 2025, the World Archery Youth Championships will come to Winnipeg so this event serves as an important development opportunity for the athletes who will still be eligible for youth categories in two years.
