Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton to join Abuse-Free Sport January 17, 2023

CALGARY— Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement to join Abuse-Free Sport, the new independent program to prevent and address maltreatment in sport.

The governing body for bobsleigh and skeleton in Canada, along with its stakeholders, will have access to the services of the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner (OSIC), which serves as the central hub of Abuse-Free Sport, following a transition period which will end no later than January 17, 2023.

“A safe training and competitive environment for everyone involved in our sport is Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton’s number one priority. We all have an important role to play in ensuring our community is inclusive, welcoming and safe for all to enjoy,” said Sarah Storey, President, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton. “Today is another important step forward in our organization’s commitment to support a national movement to change the culture of sport in this country. As part of that commitment, we’re pleased to sign on to Abuse-Free Sport and to soon have the OSIC to administer our safe sport complaints.”

During the transition period, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton will fully adopt the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS), which it must do before it can become part of the Abuse-Free Sport program, and make the required policy changes.

Prior to January 17, 2023, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton’s participants who have experienced or witnessed abuse will continue to have access to independent third-party services through the organization’s independent third party, Ashley Lattal of Lattal Law.
