Archers are getting ready for World Archery 3D Championships in Italy

TERNI, IT – Seventeen Canadian archers have arrived in Terni, Italy for the 2022 World Archery 3D Championships. The competition venue is the Meadows of Stroncone, where the first rounds will take place, and the finals will be held at Carsulae, a unique archaeological site. On a site rich with preserved landmarks, Canadian archers will be looking to make history.

The competition will begin with 2 qualification rounds of 24 targets each, with all categories shooting. Following that, the mixed team event will be held through to finals. The last three days of competition will be highlighted by the elimination rounds of the individual and team events.

William “Alex” Melnik, Jovica Djukic and Billy Sanderson will wear the maple leaf jerseys in the barebow category. The compound category will have Canadian representation from Monica Higgins, Andrea Wiens, April Willis, Joe Sarrazin, Blair St. Amant, and Leon Laffin. 1 female archer, Miranda Sparkes, and 3 males archers, Fred Streleoff, Jaize Tostyniuk, and Greg “Bud” Dettling, will be shooting in the longbow division. Trudy Dryden, Marc Britton, Gentian Zoto and Brad Hackewich round out the team in the traditional category.

The team brandishes a wide range of experience. At the 2019 3D World Championships, Dryden won a bronze medal in the instinctive women category, as well as a team silver in the women’s competition with Higgins and Sparkes. Streleoff and Britton placed 4th and 5th, respectively, in the instinctive men’s category. The team also includes archers who will be attending their first international competition, who have been working hard over the last couple of months to prepare for this pinnacle event.

Canada is looking forward to seeing what they achieve in Italy and cheering them on from across the ocean.
