Following meetings held between the Athletics Canada Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer David Bedford, it has been agreed that Mr. Bedford will be retiring from the organization effective immediately.
David joined the organization in April 2019 with the objective of leading Athletics Canada through a transition for a period of 18-24 months. Now, 34 months later and on the heels of Athletics Canada’s best Olympic Games since 1928, David will be retiring from the organization.
Helen Manning, Athletics Canada board Chair, “We have a strong leadership group in place. Over the coming days and weeks the board will discuss the move forward plan. Mathieu Gentès will assume the role of interim-CEO until further notice. Mathieu has been with Athletics Canada since 2005, has held the role of Chief Operating Officer since 2016, and a succession plan was underway. The board is very comfortable that the Executive Leadership team will work together to maintain business as usual for our members, associates, stakeholders and partners.”
