ABOUT THE POSITION
As a key member of Swimming Canada’s High Performance Paralympic Program, the successful candidate will be responsible to lead all aspects of Paralympic High Performance Centre in Montreal.
The impact and success of the role will be defined by progression of Centre athletes’ performances at WPS World Championship events and Paralympic Games, as well as through the implementation of an athlete-centered and performance cultural approach.
The ideal candidate will be available to start April 1, 2025. Some flexibility with the start date may be accommodated.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and direct all activities related to CHP-Que.
- Act as personal and main coach for all CHP-Que athletes.
- Ensure coaching delivery for CHP-Que athletes aligns with high-performance standards and Swimming Canada guidelines, including:
- Daily Training Environment (DTE)
- Yearly Training Plans (YTP)
- Individual Performance Plans
- Gap Analyses
- Collaborate with the Para National IST Lead to optimize services for athletes’ progression toward podium performances at major Games.
- Develop and implement individual annual training and competition performance plans for each Centre athlete.
- Create and lead a best-in-class DTE through exceptional preparation, on-deck coaching, and regular debriefs.
- Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with other lead coaches in Swimming Canada High Performance Centres.
- Work with the IST team, in conjunction with the Para National IST Lead, to deliver a best-in-class daily training environment.
- Optimize program funding while ensuring high-performance standards are sustainable.
- Manage and provide input on the annual budget for CHP-Que and other assigned initiatives.
- Attend domestic and international events as a personal or team coach, as assigned.
- Identify athletes with potential for CHP-Que and develop them toward podium performances at major Games.
- Monitor athlete progression through data collection and share information with key internal and external groups.
- Engage with provinces to provide identified athletes with Centre visit opportunities.
- Provide timely updates and reports on coaching activities.
- Perform other duties as required.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIREMENTS
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- International Coaching Experience:
- Coaching internationally classified para swimmers (required).
- Coaching para swimmers at major international competitions (World Championships, Paralympics, Para Pan American Games) (asset).
- Certifications:
- NCCP Level 3 or equivalent (or near completion by start date) (required).
- Chartered Professional Coach designation (asset).
- Technical and IST Experience:
- Leading an Integrated Support Team (IST) (asset).
- Understanding para swimming classification (domestic/international) (asset).
- Technical knowledge of impairments and their relation to high-performance sport (asset).
Education:
Post-secondary education or equivalent experience (asset).
Skills and Abilities:
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-faceted environment.
- Decision-Making: Provide timely, compelling, accurate advice to support decision-making.
- Relationship-Building: Maintain effective relationships with internal and external groups.
- Organization: Exceptional planning, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written skills in English (required); French (desired).
- Influence: Ability to guide and influence various groups.
- Technology: Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and swimming technologies (Swim Pro video system) (asset).
Compliance and Certifications:
- Enhanced Police Information Check (EPIC) and other organizational requirements.
- Active member of the Canadian Swimming Coaches Association (CSCA).
- National Lifeguard Certification (pool) and/or Standard First Aid/AED (asset).
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Valid driver’s license (asset).
WORK LOCATION
This is a full-time, 4-year term position, working out of the Centre in Montreal. The successful
candidate must be available and eligible for selection to all National and CHP-Que team and camp activities. This position involves irregular working hours and significant travel.
The High Performance Centre in Montreal is located on unceded Indigenous lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation.
The Ottawa Office is located on the traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinabek People.
