Organization Overview
First Tee – Ontario is a youth development program governed by Golf Canada that uses golf as a platform to offer children from all backgrounds the opportunity to develop transformational life skills through sport.
As a leader in the community, First Tee – Ontario serves youth from equity deserving communities, engaging them in programs that combine golf instruction with character-building education. The program has experienced rapid growth since launch in 2021 with over 14,000 children engaged annually. Staff, working closely with the Golf Canada Foundation, have cultivated a passionate and supportive donor base to continue to drive impact in Ontario.
Position Summary
The Chapter Head will provide visionary leadership and oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and initiatives aligned with First Tee’s mission and strategic goals. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director, First Tee – Canada and Director, Development, First Tee – Canada to ensure the chapter’s growth, sustainability, and compliance with national standards.
The Chapter Head will lead fundraising efforts, community engagement, and the operational management of the chapter, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation. This individual will have an entrepreneurial mindset, be impact driven, passionate about furthering the program’s success in Ontario and possess a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Governance – 25%
• Collaborate with the Executive Director, First Tee – Canada, to develop and execute the chapter’s strategic plan.
• Oversee the recruitment, development, and performance of staff and volunteers, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and processes.
• Act as the primary spokesperson for First Tee – Ontario, building strong relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, community leaders, and program participants.
• Maintain open communication with First Tee – Canada, ensuring adherence to national policies, reporting requirements, and organizational values.
Program Development and Delivery – 25%
• Ensure the effective implementation of First Tee’s curriculum and youth development programs.
• Collaborate with community partners to expand access to programs, particularly in underserved and underrepresented areas.
• Evaluate program outcomes to measure impact and guide continuous improvement.
• When opportunities arise, collaborate with the Director, Inclusion programs on outreach and engagement of target demographics
• Collaborate effectively with Golf Ontario to ensure continued support and alignment of First Tee – Ontario’s growth and development
Fundraising and Development – 25%
• Build strong relations and work collaboratively with the Executive Director, First Tee – Canada and the Director, Development, First Tee – Canada to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve continued financial sustainability and growth.
• Articulate First Tee – Ontario’s mission and objective to donors.
• Cultivate relationships and build trust with individual donors, corporations, and foundations, securing sponsorships, grants, and major gifts.
• Oversee donor recognition, stewardship, and communication to ensure long-term engagement and support.
Financial and Operational Management – 15%
• Develop and manage the chapter’s annual budget in collaboration with chapter staff, the Executive Director, First Tee – Canada and Director, Development, First Tee – Canada.
• Oversee all financial activities, ensuring compliance with annual budget.
Marketing and Public Relations – 10%
• Collaborate with the broader Media and PR teams across the organization to build the public profile of First Tee – Ontario through marketing, outreach, and events.
• Develop compelling communications and storytelling to engage diverse audiences and stakeholders.
• Represent the chapter at local and national First Tee events, conferences, meetings and other Golf Canada / Golf Ontario events.
Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, sport management, business administration, education or, a combination of equivalent work experience and education in a related field.
• Seven to ten years of leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector or a youth development program, including fundraising, staff management, and strategic planning.
• Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a strong ability to build and maintain relationships.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent organizations skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven ability to secure major gifts, sponsorships, and grants.
• Strong ability to manage finances, including budgeting and compliance in a nonprofit setting.
• Knowledge of youth development programming and curriculum delivery.
• Passion for the game of golf and/or sport, and its role in fostering personal growth and character development.
• Motivated, enthusiastic individual who will willing to travel within the province and work overtime as needed.
• Knowledge of the Canadian Golf industry is considered an asset.
• Bilingualism (French and English) considered an asset.
NOTE: The Golf Canada’s regular hours of work are 40 hours per week, namely Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day and 5 days a week including a one-hour lunch. However, the demands of your position may mean that your hours of work will vary, may be irregular and will be the hours required to meet the objectives of your employment.
