TORONTO (July 27, 2022) – Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) would like to congratulate the 268 athletes and their coaches named to Team Canada for the 2022 Commonwealth Games taking place in Birmingham, England from July 28 to August 8, 2022. CSIO would like to recognize the 84 Ontario athletes, numerous Ontario coaches, and countless Ontario-based support staff representing Canada at the Games. Ontario athletes comprise 32% of Team Canada, the most of any province or territory!

Among the Canadian athletes competing at the Games, 70 members of the Team have received support from CSIO during their athletic career on the high performance development pathway. CSIO works or has worked with these athletes and their coaches to optimize their performance and enhance their ability to succeed on the international stage. This includes the delivery of best-in-class sport science services such as strength and conditioning, sport nutrition, mental performance, biomechanics and performance analysis, physiology, sport medicine and athletic therapy, and access to state-of-the-art training facilities.

CSIO would also like to congratulate then 30 athletes on Team Canada who have been a part of CSIO’s Ontario High Performance Sport Initiative (OHPSI) program. OHPSI is a program designed by CSIO and funded by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, to provide sport science and sport medicine services to provincial athletes who are best capable of achieving future international success on senior national teams in targeted winter and summer sports. The OHPSI investment also contributes to funding support for athlete participation in competition and training, coach / technical leadership support and professional development, and enhancing a sports’ daily training environments.

CSIO’s purpose is Elevating People & Performances and these Ontario and CSIO affiliated athletes are a testament to the best-in-class program and service delivery that CSIO provides in the pursuit of #BuildingChampions.

In May 2022, CSIO had the honour of hosting The Queen’s Baton Relay on one of only a few Canadian stops, as it made its journey to all 72 Commonwealth Nations and Territories ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The Queen’s Baton was welcomed by a group of high performance athletes training at CSIO including national team athletes from athletics, para athletics, and wheelchair basketball, and was emceed by Team Canada 2022 co-Chefs de Missions, Claire Carver-Dias and Sam Effah.

TORONTO (27 juillet 2022) – L’Institut canadien du sport de l’Ontario (ICSO) tient à féliciter les 268 athlètes et leurs entraîneurs nommés au sein d’Équipe Canada pour les Jeux du Commonwealth 2022 qui auront lieu à Birmingham, en Angleterre, du 28 juillet au 8 août 2022. L’ICSO souhaite aussi féliciter les 84 athlètes ontariens, ainsi que les nombreux entraîneurs et les innombrables membres du personnel de soutien de l’Ontario qui représenteront le Canada aux Jeux. Les athlètes ontariens comptent pour 32 % d’Équipe Canada, le plus grand nombre pour une province ou un territoire!

Parmi les athlètes canadiens qui prennent part aux Jeux, 70 membres de l’équipe ont bénéficié du soutien de l’ICSO au cours de leur carrière sportive en suivant le parcours de perfectionnement de haut niveau. L’ICSO travaille ou a travaillé avec ces athlètes et leurs entraîneurs dans le but d’optimiser leur performance et de parfaire leur capacité à réussir au niveau international. Cela inclut la prestation de services de science du sport de pointe comme la préparation physique, la nutrition sportive, la performance mentale, la biomécanique et l’analyse de la performance, la physiologie, la médecine sportive et la thérapie sportive, ainsi que l’accès à des installations d’entraînement à la fine pointe de la technologie.

L’ICSO souhaite également féliciter les 30 athlètes d’Équipe Canada qui ont participé au programme de l’Initiative en sport de haute performance de l’Ontario (ISHPO) de l’ICSO.L’initiative en sport de haut niveau est un programme conçu par l’ICSO et financé par le ministère du Tourisme, de la Culture et du Sport. Il vise à offrir des services en sciences et médecine du sport aux athlètes provinciaux des équipes nationales seniors qui sont le plus susceptibles de réussir à l’échelle internationale dans des sports d’hiver et d’été ciblés. L’investissement dans l’ISHPO contribue aussi à financer la participation des athlètes à des compétitions, le soutien à l’entraînement, ainsi que le soutien en matière de direction technique, de perfectionnement professionnel et l’amélioration des environnements d’entraînement quotidien.

L’ICSO a pour objectif d’amener les gens et les performances au niveau supérieur, et ces athlètes ontariens et affiliés à l’ICSO sont la preuve que l’ICSO offre les meilleurs programmes et services de pointe pour former des champions. #BuildingChampions.

En mai 2022, l’ICSO a eu l’honneur d’accueillir le relais de Bâton de la Reine à l’un des seuls arrêts au Canada, alors qu’il faisait son voyage dans les 72 nations et territoires du Commonwealth avant les Jeux du Commonwealth 2022. Le Bâton de la Reine a été accueilli par un groupe d’athlètes de haute performance qui s’entraînent à l’ICSO, y compris des athlètes de l’équipe nationale en athlétisme, en para-athlétisme et en basketball en fauteuil roulant, et a été animé par Claire Carver-Dias et Sam Effah, les co-chefs de missions d’Équipe Canada 2022.
