Under-23 and Junior Rowers Receive Boost from Landmark Gift
Rowing Canada – VICTORIA, BC – Tuesday, June 20, 2017 – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) announced today a transformative gift of $60,000, pledged by an individual donor to support the Under-23 and Junior National Team athletes over the next two years. This landmark gift sparked momentum for support of the RCA All for One philanthropic campaign, which was launched Friday, June 9th.
“The support of individual and corporate donors is absolutely critical to ensure the continued strength of Canadian rowing,” said Terry Dillon, Chief Executive Officer, RCA. “It is thanks to incredible gifts like these, that we are able to work toward realizing our goal that no athlete should have to pay to represent Canada.”
The generosity of this gift, with additional funding from long-time RCA supporters, serves as a 1:1 matching fund of the public campaign. Nearly $50,000 has been raised in support of the Under-23 and Junior athletes. This will match donations made by the public between June 9th and August 9th.
RCA will continue to provide the majority of funding for Junior and Under-23 athletes attending the World Championship events. Reaching out to the rowing community and all Canadians for support will lead to an immediate impact on the Under-23 and Junior programs, reducing the financial burden on athletes and investing in the future of Canadian rowing.
The Junior team was announced on June 12, with three crews competing to Trakai, Lithuania from August 2nd to 6th. The Under-23 team will be announced on June 21st. This team will compete at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships from July 19th to 23rd in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
