OTTAWA, ON: Skate Canada has officially endorsed Benoît Lavoie’s candidacy for the position of Vice President – Figure Skating of the International Skating Union (ISU). Elections will take place at the 58th Ordinary ISU Congress 2022 which will be held in Phuket, Thailand from June 6-10, 2022. 

Since 2016, Lavoie has served two terms as an ISU Council member. This understanding of the ISU and his up-to-date and profound technical knowledge stemming from being a competitive figure skater and as a current ISU Official (judge, referee and technical controller) are critical assets for the position.  During his current ISU tenure, he has honored the rich traditions of figure skating while moving the organization forward with new ideas. An advocate for excellence, teamwork, diversity, and fair play in sport, Lavoie has been dedicated to listening and dialoguing with member federations to understand their reality and concerns.

Native of Baie St-Paul, Que., Lavoie is a former President of Skate Canada. He was first elected to the Skate Canada Board in 1995 and served as President from 2006-2013 and as Vice President from 2001-2006. Lavoie is a long-time skating volunteer with over 40 years of experience and has dedicated numerous hours to the improvement of skating in Canada and around the world including playing a major part in the ISU judging system.

Lavoie is a career civil servant with the Quebec Government, committing his work life to putting public interests first. Over his distinguished career he has focused on building corporate relationships including contract services to promote and assist in upgrading unemployable sectors of the population.

In 2018, he was named an honorary associate of Skate Canada and in 2013 he was honoured by the Governor General of Canada with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Patinage Canada a officiellement appuyé la candidature de Benoît Lavoie, au poste de vice-président – patinage artistique de l’Union internationale de patinage (ISU). Les élections auront lieu lors du 58e congrès ordinaire de l’ISU 2022, qui se tiendra à Phuket, en Thaïlande, du 6 au 10 juin 2022. 

Depuis 2016, Benoît a rempli deux mandats à titre de membre du conseil de l’ISU. Sa compréhension de l’ISU et ses connaissances techniques approfondies et à jour, du fait qu’il a été un patineur artistique de compétition et en tant qu’officiel actuel de l’ISU (juge, arbitre et contrôleur technique), sont des atouts essentiels pour le poste. Au cours de son mandat actuel à l’ISU, il a honoré les riches traditions du patinage artistique, tout en faisant avancer l’organisation grâce à de nouvelles idées. Défenseur de l’excellence, du travail d’équipe, de la diversité et de l’esprit sportif dans le sport, Benoît s’est voué à écouter et à dialoguer avec les fédérations membres, pour comprendre leurs réalités et leurs préoccupations.

Bénévole de patinage de longue date, comptant plus de 40 ans d’expérience, il a consacré de nombreuses heures à l’amélioration du patinage au Canada et dans le monde entier, y compris en jouant un rôle majeur dans le système de notation de l’ISU.

Benoît est un fonctionnaire de carrière au gouvernement du Québec, qui s’est engagé dans sa vie professionnelle à accorder la priorité à l’intérêt public. Au cours de sa carrière distinguée, il s’est concentré à l’établissement de relations d’affaires, y compris des contrats de prestation de services, afin de promouvoir et d’aider à améliorer les secteurs inemployables de la population.

En 2018, il a été nommé associé honoraire de Patinage Canada et, en 2013, il a été honoré par le gouverneur général du Canada qui lui a conféré la Médaille du souverain pour les bénévoles.
