Ontario claims double gold in Open Water at Canada Games
ST. CATHARINES, Ontario – The swimming portion of the 2022 Canada Games officially came to an end on Friday with two open water champions crowned at the Welland International Flatwater Centre.
A total of 317 swimmers, Para swimmers and special Olympians competed at this six-day competition.

- With 11 medals (6 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze), Julie Brousseau, from Ontario, matches the record for the most medals won at a single Canada Games that was set by Ontario swimmer Hanna Henderson at the 2017 Canada Summer Games. She also broke the Canada Games record in the 200-m IM with a time of 2:14.93.
- Alisson Gobeil, representing Équipe Québec, broke the Canadian record twice in the 50-m backstroke S5, first posting a time of 57.45 in the preliminaries and then finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 56.90.
- Chris Weeks from Newfoundland and Labrador broke the Canada Games record in the 50-m butterfly in 24.53.
- Leilani Fack (British Columbia) won nine medals including 1 gold, 7 silver, 1 bronze.
- Maxine Clark, representing Team Alberta, won eight medals (5 gold and 3 bronze).
- Katie Cosgriffe, from Ontario, won seven medals including 6 gold and 1 silver.
- Dakota Howard (Alberta) won seven medals (4 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze)
- Connor Bissett (Alberta) won gold in all his events (50-m breaststroke, 100-m freestyle, 100-m backstroke, 50-m backstroke, 50-m freestyle Special Olympics)
