GREENSBORO, N.C.- Canadian swimming stars Summer McIntosh and Joshua Liendo concluded the U.S. Open swimming competition with three medals apiece, each earning a silver on Saturday. 

In the women’s 200-m backstroke, world champion Regan Smith took the gold in a meet record 2:05.28. McIntosh, followed in 2:07.15, smashing her personal best while Josephine Fuller of the U.S. was third in 2:09.77. 

The 16-year-old McIntosh from Toronto also won the 400-m individual medley on Friday and was second in the 400-m freestyle Thursday. She’s been one of the top swimmers in the world in 2022, highlighted by her double gold performance at the world championships this past June. 

It’s also been a great season for Liendo, 20, from Markham, Ont. He took the silver Saturday in the 100-m freestyle in 48.97 roaring back from sixth spot at the turn. Andrej Barna of Serbia won the race in 48.45 and Matt King of the U.S. was third in 49.05. 

Liendo also took silver medals this week in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle. He was Canada’s standout male swimmer at the worlds with three medals.

GREENSBORO, Caroline du Nord – Les étoiles de la natation canadienne, Summer McIntosh et Joshua Liendo, ont conclu l’U.S. Open de natation avec trois médailles chacune, ayant décroché l’argent samedi. 

Au 200 m dos féminin, la championne du monde Regan Smith a remporté l’épreuve en signant un record de compétition avec un temps de 2 min 5 s 28. McIntosh, a touché le mur derrière elle avec un chrono de 2 min 7 s 15, éclipsant du même coup son record personnel, tandis que l’Américaine Josephine Fuller complète le podium grâce à un temps de 2 min 9 s 77. 

Originaire de Toronto, McIntosh, 16 ans, a également été victorieuse du 400 m quatre nages individuel, vendredi, après avoir pris la deuxième place du 400 m libre, jeudi.  Elle est une des meilleures nageuses au monde en 2022, comme en témoignent les deux médailles d’or qu’elle a remportées aux championnats du monde au mois de juin dernier. 

Liendo, 20 ans, de Markham, en Ontario, connaît également une excellente saison. Il a mis la main sur l’argent, samedi, au 100 m libre avec un temps de 48 s 97 après avoir effectué une remontée à partir de la sixième place au virage. Andrej Barna, de la Serbie, a gagné l’épreuve avec un temps de 48 s 45 et Matt King, des États-Unis, a pris la troisième place en signant un chrono de 49 s 05. 

Liendo a également été médaillé d’argent cette semaine au 100 m papillon et au 50 m libre. Il est un des nageurs de l’équipe canadienne masculine à s’être démarqué aux mondiaux avec trois médailles.
