Final Canadian team announced for 2017 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Montreal

Gymnastics Canada – OTTAWA, ON (September 1, 2017) – Gymnastics Canada is pleased to announce the final list of athletes and coaches who will represent Canada at the 2017 FIG World Artistic Gymnastics Championships at the historic Olympic Stadium in Montreal from October 2^nd to 8^th.

WOMEN

“We’re very excited about having the World Championships in Canada. It’s a special opportunity for our athletes to showcase their talent and hard work,” said Dave Brubaker, National Team Director for women’s artistic gymnastics at Gymnastics Canada. “We had excellent results at the FISU Games in Taipei, as well as the Pan Am Championships in Peru, and other World Cup activities that some of the athletes have participated in, and will participate in before the World Championships, that have provided us with a process that will help us produce the best possible outcomes in October.”

The women’s team will attend a final training camp at Bluewater Gymnastics in Sarnia, ON from Sept 24-27, and will arrive in Montreal on September 27^th. Media availabilities will be communicated at a later date.

MEN

“Our team for this worlds has a mix of veterans and up-and-comers giving us a nice combination of athletes with real potential to qualify into the apparatus finals,” said Tony Smith, National Team Director for men’s artistic gymnastics at Gymnastics Canada. “The team will be led by Olympic veteran, Scott Morgan who will be competing on his specialties – floor, rings, and vault. At the other end of the spectrum will be Thierry Pellerin, a rookie from Quebec who will be competing at his first World Championships on pommel horse. I’m really looking forward to seeing our athletes compete their best in front of a hometown crowd in beautiful Montreal.”

The men’s team will have a final training camp at the Institut National du sport du Québec in Montreal on September 26^th and 27^th. Media availabilities will be communicated at a later date.

The draw to determine Canada’s subdivisions for the qualification rounds takes place on September 13^th in Lausanne, SUI at 04:00 ET.

Thurs. Oct. 5: MAG Individual All-around Final @ 1900 ET
Fri. Oct. 6: WAG Individual All-around Final @1900 ET
Sat. Oct. 7: Apparatus Finals (MAG: Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings. WAG: Vault, Uneven Bars) @ 1300 ET
Sun. Oct. 8: Apparatus Finals (MAG: Vault, Parallel Bars, Horizontal Bar. WAG: Balance Beam, Floor) @ 1300 ET
