Synchro Canada – OTTAWA, August 16, 2017 – Close to one hundred Masters Synchronized Swimmers represented Canada last week at the 2017 FINA World Masters Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The events took place at the City Park – Városliget Lake, the same amazing venue that our National Team visited a few weeks ago for the 2017 FINA World Championships.

“Synchro Canada congratulates the almost 100 masters competitors who took their passion for the sport of synchronized (artistic) swimming to Budapest, Hungary on the occasion of the 17th FINA World Masters Championships,” stated Synchro Canada CEO, Jackie Buckingham. “We are so proud of all our masters’ swimmers continued commitment to sport-for-life at its highest level and thank them for being such worthy role models for our youngest athletes.”

Represented by 13 different clubs, Canada had entries in every event of the competition, in almost all age groups. The clubs participating were:

Not unlike our Senior National Team, the swimmers were impressed by the venue and the staff in Budapest. “The setting for World Masters was like nothing I have ever experienced! The Training Pool below the ‘castle’ and the Competition Pool with stands for 5000 made for an incredible experience. Masters has never had so grand a location. The volunteers were always there to help with any problems. It was a truly unique experience.” said Dot Padget, Calgary Aquamums swimmer and Synchro Canada Official. “Canada was well represented and made a great showing on the podium,” she added.
Canadian synchronized swimmers won 12 medals during the event, 8 of them gold:
