Canada’s Top Synchro Teams Head to Hamilton for the World Championships
OTTAWA, ON: Canada will have two entries at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships® 2022. Les Suprêmes, from CPA Saint-Léonard and Nexxice, from the Burlington Skating Centre will both represent the maple leaf in Hamilton, Ontario.
The championships will take place from April 7-9, 2022, in Hamilton, Ontario at the FirstOntario Centre. Due to the pandemic the event has not taken place since 2019. In 2019, the competition took place in Helsinki, Finland and saw Nexxice narrowly miss the podium finishing in fourth place.
Both teams competed at the 2022 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships, in Calgary, Alberta earlier this year in February. In that competition, Les Suprêmes were crowned Canadian champions while Nexxice picked up the silver medal.
Les Suprêmes are coached by Marilyn Langlois, Pascal Denis and Amélie Brochu in Saint-Léonard, Que. While Nexxice are coached by Shelley Simonton Barnett, Anne Schelter and Jennifer Beauchamp in Burlington, Ont.
Mike Slipchuk, Skate Canada High Performance Director will be the team leader at the event. Dr. Lee Schofield of Toronto, Ont., and physiotherapist Meghan Buttle of Toronto, Ont., will be the Canadian medical staff onsite. Jennifer Betts of Bragg Creek, Alta., will be the Canadian judge at the event.
