Archipel Research and Consulting Inc. an Indigenous-owned, women-led research company is leading an Indigenous sport engagement and research process on behalf of Sport Canada. The project, titled Indigenous Peoples in Sport: Research and Data Plan aims to gain insights from sport researchers, athletes, coaches, sport officials, Indigenous sport organizations and non-Indigenous sport organizations into how research about Indigenous peoples in sport can be improved.

A series of Sharing Circles will be held this fall with participants from across Canada and from the different stakeholders listed above. The lessons learned from the Sharing Circles will be compiled into a report that will be shared with Sport Canada and the Indigenous sport community to implement and incorporate in future research.

As well, the research process will be guided by an Indigenous Advisory Group (IAG) made up of Elders, Knowledge Holders, Indigenous sport organizations, sport event groups, community organizers, sport researchers, and athletes.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Archipel Research and Consulting Inc. at info@archipelresearch.com.

This project is the continuation of efforts by Indigenous researchers and leaders who have worked to change the sport realm within Canada. We would like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Janice Forsyth, the Aboriginal Sport Circle, Western University, and others whose work was foundational to this project.
