Canada Ultimate – OTTAWA – The 31st Canadian Ultimate Championships are coming to Ottawa in August 2017.

“We’re bringing Canada’s top Ultimate athletes to Canada’s capital to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday,” said Teri-Lynne Belanger, Events Manager for Ultimate Canada, the governing body for the sport of Ultimate in Canada.

“We are expecting over 2,000 athletes and coaches from across Canada. Divisions include junior open and junior women (aged 14-18) on August 14-16, and open, women, masters open (aged 33+) and masters women (aged 30+) on August 17-20.”

“We are thrilled to host the 2017 Canadian Ultimate Championships in the midst of the Canada 150 celebrations in the nation’s capital,” said Venissa de Castro, Co-Director of the Ottawa Tournament Organizing Committee, an independent volunteer group.

“The Canadian Ultimate Championships were first held in Ottawa in 1987, and we feel that it only makes sense that the 2017 edition be a part of all the excitement taking place in Ottawa this year,” added Naomi Garneau, Co-Director of the Tournament Organizing Committee. “We’d like to thank Ultimate Canada for giving us this amazing opportunity and we look forward to renewing Ottawa’s reputation for producing world-class events, having successfully hosted many Ultimate Canada events in the past.”

Ottawa hosted the Canadian Ultimate Championships 5 times since hosting the inaugural event in 1987, as well as the Canadian University Ultimate Championships in 2015 and 2013.

“Ottawa is proud to once again welcome the Canadian Ultimate Championships in our City,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “These Championships are one more great reason to visit the Nation’s Capital during Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017, and for residents and visitors to enjoy this exciting game.”

Canadians from every corner of the country travel to the host city to participate in Canada’s premier Ultimate event. Ultimate is a sport that combines aspects of sports such as basketball, football and soccer into a unique package that is focused on Spirit of the Game, where sportsmanship is key and disagreements on the field are handled by the players themselves. Ultimate is a growing sport in Ottawa, Canada, and across the world, as the International Olympic Committee granted full recognition to the sport’s international governing body, World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), in 2015.

“The 2017 event is extra exciting because it’s a qualifying year for the WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC). You simply won’t see better Canadian ultimate than the country’s top teams, competing on Canada’s best ultimate fields to represent Canada at WUCC,” said Belanger.

Games from August 14-19 will be held at Ultimate Parks Incorporated (UPI), located at 1295 Manotick Station Rd, Greely, Ontario. UPI is the world’s largest purpose-built Ultimate facility with 19 top quality fields and a two-acre raised area overlooking the fields, perfect for viewing the country’s best Ultimate. Admission is free for all games at UPI and spectators can enjoy local food trucks and a beer garden featuring Big Rig Brewery.

MNP Field at Carleton University is the host venue for larger events and games. We will welcome 3000 players, coaches and spectators to the Opening Ceremonies and Junior Showcase game on Sunday, August 13, Junior Finals on Wednesday, August 16, and Adult Finals on Sunday, August 20. Tickets for all events at Carleton University’s MNP Field are available now online for $10 in advance or $12 at the gate.
