Volleyball Canada – Volleyball Canada is pleased to announce the men’s indoor program coaches for the 2017 season.

“Once again this year, we have assembled a staff of outstanding coaches,” said Julien Boucher, Volleyball Canada’s Indoor High Performance Director. “These coaches will be instrumental in carrying on the Team Canada culture of excellence throughout the summer and for years to come.”

Head coach Stéphane Antiga will be able to count on two assistants who are no stranger to the men’s senior team. Dan Lewis, of Oakville, ON, is Canada’s former libero and recently retired from the men’s team. He is currently coaching as an assistant with Team Canada’s full-time training centre and will become the head coach of that program in the fall of 2017. Georges Laplante (shown in the photo above), from Montreal, QC, has been involved with the program for many years. He was the B Team head coach for the last two summers and is currently in his 19th season at the helm of the Université de Montréal Carabins.

Team Canada’s B team will be led by Larry McKay (Winnipeg, MB), who served as Glenn Hoag’s assistant for the past few summers, including Team Canada’s success at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. McKay is the University of Winnipeg Wesmen long-standing head coach. His assistant will be Jason Haldane (Terrace, BC). Jason is a Team Canada alumnus (1992-2004) and is currently coaching Bal Sport in Turkey’s 2nd division. Canada’s B team will participate in the 2017 Pan American Cup, to be held in Gatineau, QC, from July 23 to 31.

Team Canada’s Junior team staff is practically unchanged from last summer. Returning as head coach is Gino Brousseau from Québec City. Another Team Canada alumnus, Gino is also the assistant coach at Université Laval. His assistants will be François St-Denis (Ottawa, ON), reprising his role from last summer, as well as Adam Simac (Ottawa, ON), former Team Canada middle blocker and current assistant coach with the Ryerson University Rams. Team Canada juniors will play in the 2017 U21 Pan American Cup, which be held in Fort McMurray, AB, from May 14-22. The top NORCECA team at that event will qualify for the FIVB U21 World Championships to be held in the Czech Republic later this summer (June 23-July 2nd).
