Top PARA Swimmers to Compete at the 2017 Speedo CAN-AM Para Swimming Championships
Swim Nova Scotia – Windsor (ON)– The 2017 Speedo Can Am Championships are set to begin on Friday, March 31 as the athletes prepare to make their way to the City of Windsor. The event will be hosted at the Windsor Aquatic Club and is set to mark the first step on the road to Tokyo 2020 for Canada’s top para-swimmers.
After a strong performance this past summer in Rio de Janeiro, our Canadian para-swimmers are looking to build upon that success in the first international event since the Paralympic Games. The Can Am Championships will serve alongside the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games as a qualifier for the upcoming 2017 World Para Swimming Championships that are set to take place in Mexico City September 30-October 6, 2017.
Nova Scotia’s 2016 Paralympian, Danial Murphy of the Truro Centurions Swim Club (TCSC), will be joined by Natasha Sexton Quillan and Holly Doucette of the Sackville Waves Aquatic Team (SWAT), along with 160 athletes. Nearly 100 different Canadian swimming clubs will be represented from all 10 provinces. International competitors will be arriving from the United States and Mexico to compete in Windsor.
The event officially gets underway at the Windsor Aquatic Club on Friday, March 31 and will conclude on Sunday April 2. Preliminary rounds begin at 9:30am and Finals will take place at 6:00pm.
