The Alouettes Foundation Supports Academic Perseverance and Excellence and Recognizes the Leadership of Quebec’s Young Football Players
Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence – Montreal, August 15, 2017 – Patrick Boivin, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Montreal Alouettes, and Marie-Eve Bergeron, Manager of Community Investment for Quebec at Bell Media, awarded a total of $32,500 in bursaries to 21 of Quebec’s most promising young football players at the 13th edition of the Montreal Alouettes Bursary Program through the Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ).
“Since the return of the Alouettes, and with the gain in football’s popularity amongst francophones, which can be largely attributed to university programs, the level of talent in Quebec has risen steadily. It is important that this continue to be the case,” stated Boivin. “It has been proven that the personality traits that help athletes excel in sports also contribute to their career success down the road. It is therefore imperative that we help develop tomorrow’s leaders by encouraging today’s young people to persevere in sports and in school,” he added.
Six types of bursaries were awarded during the ceremony, which was held in the Piano Room at McGill Stadium: 4 Academic Excellencebursaries to reward outstanding scholastic achievement, 10 Academic and Athletic Support bursaries to promote the balancing of football with academic pursuits, 2 Leadership bursaries to recognize community involvement, 2 Perseverance bursaries to commend exemplary attitudes in the face of difficult circumstances, 2 College Recruitment bursaries for student-athletes who have completed secondary school and will be pursuing their academic and athletic careers at the college level, and 1 University Recruitment bursary for a student who has completed cegep and will be pursuing his academic and athletic career at a university in Quebec.
Claude Chagnon, President of the FAEQ, is greatly encouraged by the long-running support of the Alouettes. “The Alouettes have been a loyal member of our team for many years, sharing our values of academic perseverance and community involvement by supporting the next generation of football players from high school to university through their bursary program,” he affirmed.
