Team Canada Men Advance to Quarterfinals at Pan Am Championships
Racquetball Canada – Winnipeg, April 13, 2017 – Team Canada’s men came up big on Wednesday at the Pan Am Championships winning all their matches to advance to the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles events.
In the doubles event Tim Landeryou of Calgary and Pedro Castro of Brossard defeated Malkel Mollet and Raul Gutierrez of Cuba with scores of 15-9, 15-13. They will face Luiz Perez and Ramon De Leon of the Dominican Republic in Thursday’s quarterfinal.
Both Mike Green of Hamilton and Samuel Murray of Baie-Comeau won their round of 32 and round of 16 matches Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals.
Green defeated Fernando Mansell of Nicaragua in the round of 32 with scores of 15-3, 14-3. In the round of 16, Green defeated José Daniel Ugalde of Ecuador, 15-9, 15-10. He plays the number three seed Alejandro Landa of Mexico in the quarterfinal.
Murray won his round of 32 match against Carlos Medrano of Honduras with scores of 15-3, 15-3. He defeated Ricardo Gomez of Venezuela in the round of 16, 15-3, 15-6. Murray will face the number one seed Javier Mar of Mexico in Thursday’s quarterfinal match.
In women’s singles Michéle Morissette came up against a tough opponent in the round of 16, losing to sixth seed Veronica Sotomayor of Ecuador with scores of 15-0, 15-1.
The women’s doubles team of Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg and Danielle Drury of Saskatoon also were unable to advance with a loss to Ana Gabriela Martinez and Andrea Martinez of Guatemala with scores of 15-7, 15-13.
