Szeryk takes nine-shot lead into final round of Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls’ Championship
Golf Ontario – ELMIRA – It was another blistering day, on July 6, at Elmira Golf Club for the third round of the Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls’ Championship. Toronto’s Sarah Beqaj and Markham’s Victoria Zheng shot incredible rounds of one-under (69), while leader London’s Ellie Szeryk, went one better with a two-under (68). That puts Szeryk at the top of the leaderboard by nine shots.
Szeryk had an impressive four birdies during the round. She started with back-to-back birdies on the first two holes and added one more, with a bogey, to make the turn at two-under. She continued on the back nine adding one more on the 17th, after a bogey on 15, to finish two-under. Szeryk is now at one-over (73-70-68-211) for the tournament and will look to take the championship during tomorrow’s final round.
As for Beqaj, a member of Team Ontario and the Toronto Golf Club, she started off the day slowly with a three-over front nine. Heading into the back, she kept her head high and hit darts. She came in with a four-under on the back nine, which included two birdies and an eagle on the 15th. Beqaj is now at 10-over (76-75-69-220) and will play in the final pairing tomorrow with Szeryk and Maple’s Alyssa DiMarcantonio.
DiMarcantonio, from Team Ontario and Station Creek Golf Club, slipped during the round and finds herself seven shots back of Beqaj at 17-over (74-73-80-227). Another Team Ontario member, Markham’s Hailey McLaughlin, from Cedar Brae Golf Club, had another consistent round and joins DiMarcantonio in a tie for third at 17-over (77-74-76-227).
The radar looks a bit damp for tomorrow, which could play a role in the final standings. The final round begins at 7:30 a.m. with the leaders set to tee off at 9:40 a.m. Admission, as always, is free for spectators.
