Squash Canada – OTTAWA, ON, September 15, 2017 – The only national collegiate squash event in Canada, the Canadian University and College Squash Championships will be staged at Le Club Sportif MAA in Montreal, QC, from March 2-4, 2018.

Dan Wolfenden, Executive Director at Squash Canada said, “MAA has a strong track record of delivering athlete-focused squash events, that coupled with Montreal’s vibrant, multi-cultural atmosphere makes it the perfect location for this event. We look forward to working closely with the team at Le Club Sportif MAA as we showcase the best of Canadian University and College squash.

Although Le Club Sportif MAA has hosted several National Championships in the past, 2018 marks the first time the Canadian University and College Championships will be held in ‘la belle province’. Last year’s male champion, David Baillargeon, represented Montreal’s McGill University when he captured the 2017 national title. Le Club Sportif MAA hosting the 2018 event means the opportunity for Baillargeon to defend the national title in his home province.

Yvon Provencal, Head Squash Professional at Club Sportif MAA and the Men’s National Coach said, “We are excited to be one of the clubs selected by Squash Canada as a 2018 Canadian Championship host. We have run several local, provincial, national and many international events in the past, and are confident in our ability to make this a first-class event for all involved. We’re delighted to be playing our part in staging the Canadian University and Colleges Championships here in Montreal and welcoming all these fantastic student-athletes to our city and our club.”

“Our club is ready to provide a fabulous experience for the best collegiate players from across the country. It’s an exciting opportunity and we can’t wait to welcome them to Montreal for the first time. We are looking forward to hosting the event and hope that with it comes a greater number of Quebec university and college athletes participating in Canada’s only national collegiate championship.”

In its 18th year, the Canadian University and College Squash Championship is the premier competitive opportunity for student-athletes enrolled in an accredited Canadian university or college from all provinces and territories. Each year, competitors battle for the national title in the Men’s Open and A categories and the Women’s Open and A categories.

Entries will open in early January 2018 for any student-athlete wishing to compete in the 2018 championships. As event details are confirmed and registration opens, they will be posted on www.squash.ca/events.
